Kastos is a narrow little island between Lefkada and the Akarnanian mainland. Only 8km from north to south and less than 1km from east to west, Kastos is one of the less known Ionian islands, inhabited by around 50 permanent residents.
It is the ultimate Ionian island hideaway. Peacefull and quiet, blessed with lovely beaches and appropriate for people that want to go fishing, snorkelling, sailing or diving, it’s the ideal destination for those looking for a holiday away from everything and everyone.
It is a place which dozens of boats sailing over the Ionian Sea moor safely each summer day.
The island’s pathways provide for pleasurable walks and are generally quite accessible and straight. At Agios Aimilianos there is a small cave, named Fokotrypa (seal hole). It is around 30 meters deep with a some sand within.
The port from where you will have to leave to reach Kastos is called Mitikas. You need a 50-minute travel to reach it and during the summer there are daily ferries from Monday to Saturday.
A mini-market just behind the main port offers essential products, fruits, vegetables and dairy products, but there are no other services on the island (no banks, no ATMs, no pharmacy).
There are very few cars on Kastos and you can’t bring your own vehicle. For this reason, if you want to explore the island, you will have to ask a lift from one of the locals.
